Developmental Knowledge in Action

Sacred Sports Foundation Learning Resource Centre

At the heart of every SSF development programme is a committed, talented group of Caribbean youth inclusively working within marginalised and at-risk communities helping create a better tomorrow. The learning courses and resources here have been developed over a decade of best practice and are geared towards easy access learning.

Background

This learning hub is about more than just sports.
It's about fun, youth development and changing society for the better.
SSF utilises sports for development activities to engage disenfranchised youth.
Our structure allows people from all backgrounds and communities to come together, be together and belong together while enjoying the many benefits of our youth development, leadership and physical activities.

SSF in the community

Years of programme delivery, consitency and results

A Culture of Inclusion: SSF programme beneficiaries include children with and without disabilities, their families and wider community in all activities conducted. We foster a clear culture of diversity and inclusion in both practice and delivery. This approach challenges discrimination and promotes a culture of acceptance.
SSF actively prioritises gender sensitivity and gender-based analysis encouraging understanding and awareness of differing sexualities and cultures.
Established position in the community: SSF programmes benefit from previous activities carried out and delivered by SSF community mentors over the years; safe space networks of support are therefore already established in local communities and significantly strengthened in recent years.
Enduring programmes: SSF only takes on projects that are long lasting and sustainable in the communities we serve.
enabling the development of strong bonds amongst beneficiaries, mentors, teachers, helpers, and parents/guardians.
Focus on a shared interest: SSF beneficiaries’ and mentors’ participation is motivated by their interest in healthy lifestyle activity and sport. This allows differences between them to become less important and increase their focus on commonalities.
Opportunities to travel and play: SSF offers travelling exchange programmes enabling both beneficiaries and mentors to strengthen their relationships within the programme setting. It also increases the appreciation of beneficiaries by the home communities they represent.
Quality mentor training: Leadership, Leadership, Leadership! The importance of the SSF Way training programme and associated physical activity, communication, safeguarding and life skills training should not be underestimated in its importance in successfully modelling inclusion and best practices.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Implementation of activities are evaluated and assessed with required changes and amendments. Three detailed review reporting and analysis sessions per year.
Public Education and Awareness: SSF is visible on all social media platforms with a view to Increasing public awareness of programme activities, its collaborating partners and broader diversity and inclusivity aims.
